Plebscan LogoPlebscan

Rebrand to bitsocial, unironically. Esteban said he will change the name of the protocol and token, if I can prove the bitsocial name is successful, so i'll launch a bitsocial app soon (a plebbit protocol client). Bitsocial is the bitcoin of decentralized social media (not just reddit; we can decentralize twitter too, and 4chan). reminder: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36204848 specifically, my plan is: 1. launch bitsocial.net as landing page with info and mailing list for beta testing 2. shill bitsocial.net to get as many people as possible subscribed to testflight beta testing as I build the app 3. launch the public beta, see how it does, maybe it does well enough already so we rename the token and protocol 4. get the app approved by app stores mods, launch it in the store 5. ensure the protocol and token are renamed 6. apply to VCs as whole bitsocial brand for everything-app + protocol powering it and other clients + token with possible L2 as roadmap 7. use funds to build profile nodes for the everything-app, making it as good as X, and start building the L2 for community tokens, nfts, daos, stake the token to decentralize its sequencer, token launcher, etc. the new naming situation would become: - Protocol: bitsocial - Token: bitsocial - Old reddit UI with all kinds of subs as default: seedit - Old reddit UI with pleb-related/OG demo subs as default: plebbit - Modern UI app on mobile: bitsocial, the flagship client (should work as “everything app” in the long run, ie starts with communities but eventually gets profiles too, with followers/followings) - Imageboard UI: 5chan (previously known as plebchan — to be done after we fix anonymity in this client, requires a new protocol feature, since there’s no anon with mintpass) --- FAQ --- Q: why it took you 3 years to realize this? A: because I've been an arrogant fool, I wanted the plebbit token to moon asap so I didn't care about the branding being unprofessional. Q: does this mean the plebbit token will die? A: no, the plebbit token will stay as is, it will just change its name to bitsocial token, and the logo will also change to an original one we're designing. Q: is it too late to change it now? A: no, it's actually the perfect time, because the dust has settled for the hype around our token (there's been a huge pump and dump from 2024), and the apps are almost MVP because [mintpass.org](https://github.com/plebbitlabs/mintpass) is about to launch, and Rinse is working on the mod queue. Both things fix spam once and for all. Q: why not change the name to bitsocial right now? why are you waiting to make a bitsocial app and make it popular before renaming the protocol and token? Because Esteban said he doesn't want to make the same mistake twice. It's logical to choose a name that's universially accepted, neutral, without FUD about it, once it's proven that it works. Q: I liked the plebbit name, what then? A: there will still be a "plebbit" app, with a old reddit UI, it will launch very soon, as we implement mintpass as challenge in the subs. But, we can't use the plebbit name as the protocol and token names, because there's always a 20%-40% of people complaining about it, which means it's not a universal name, it doesn't make most plebbit users happy, so it has to change to a neutral name that's far easier to be understood by the masses (bitsocial is super easy to understand, similarly to bitcoin, and sounds p2p/revolutionary just like bittorrent and bittensor) - as Esteban said: https://t.me/plebbit/664098.
